  • Fall Break

No school today.  Since the 2 fall holidays fell on weekends this year (German Reunification Day and All Saints' Day) BFA gave us a day off so we could have a long weekend!!  Last night was the traditional "Herbstmesse" trip (when most of the students descend on the nearby city of Basel for the autumn carnival and trade fair).  This is me with part of my small group!  What a fun bunch.

The plan for today was to spend the day driving around the Alsace (France) with my friend Michele taking "fall" pictures...but the sun did not cooperate enough to make it a good photo op day...so instead we went second-hand store shopping.  My big find was 2 plates in my Alsatian dish pattern

Flower boxes which still look good in October!

    What do I want?

To be vibrant, even in the autumn of life:

To learn to APPLY scripture.  I'm beginning to realize I know a lot of truth but it doesn't always make a CHANGE in my life style.  TRANSFORM me Lord!!

    Moment(s) of great happiness?

An unexpected hug from a grateful student

Going out for coffee with a visiting BFA graduate

Seeing photos of my brother's family's visit to my mom.  Doesn't SHE look happy to have help with her leaf raking!?

    Marti & Mom

Envisioning Jesus among us at the bumper cars...sounds strange I know, but I could just picture Him smiling at the fun which the kids were having.

In general, seeing fall colors.  Even though the colors here aren't as brilliant as some I've seen in the U.S., they are still marvelous...

Whether you are facing joys or struggles right now, I pray you will be encouraged by Romans 8:18-21

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be re:vealed in us. 19The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.

What would you title this photo?  I LOVED the bright yellow next to the other, already dead leaves and crushed acorns.  I'm feeling a little like the brown parts of this picture these days, so the "just fell off a tree" leaf inspired me. And to think that I would've missed it had I not dragged myself outside to walk!

    What am I grateful for?

The last vestiges of summer (geraniums!)

Cheetos (brought to me by a Canadian friend)

Pumpkin soup (just made myself a potful)

    People who listen

    What do I want?

To be nearer my mom on days when she could use my help...

A reading week (like you get in college)

For "my children" to walk with the Lord

The discipline to get out an WALK more...

    Moments of great happiness

Seeing a gingko tree and thinking of my dad

    Reading Lauren Winner's Mudhouse Sabbath

Getting a "got plans for supper?" phone call

Getting an email from a former student describing the joys and challenges at her new school (this is a "military brat" whose father was transferred last year

Getting emails from friends who admonish me in the Lord (thanks Peggy, Marilyn, Ruth & Vicky)

    "The Lord bless you, and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine on you,
    And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
    And give you peace."

  • It's been too long

So one of my faithful followers asked me when I was going to post...I had NO IDEA that it has been nearly two months since I last blogged...Not sure why it's taken me so long...partly cuz I got a new camera which I'm finding hard to figure out...partly cuz life started back up at BFA and well, it's just busy.  So, I'm back...with a random assortment of pics (for you Eileen!!).

What am I grateful for?  LOTS OF THINGS...

For a new SMALL GROUP of Juniors: Here's two of "my" girls at the fall party...representing the opposites of sunny and rainy...

For a WEEKEND in Switzerland (got to show my friend, Michele, around to some of the places I lived 27 years ago!)..

    WHAT DO I WANT?

To get to know some of our students better:

    MOMENT OF GREAT HAPPINESS

When the girls in my small group opened up to each other on a deeper level...I pray that our weekly meetings will be a place of safety for them.  A place of getting to know each other better, but more importantly, getting to know Jesus better.

  • Time well spent

    Moment(s) of great happiness:

Spending a day with my uncle, cousin & second cousin in Interlaken, Switzerland
(two trips in one summer, how blessed am I?)

Spending an evening and a day with 3 of my former small group girls

    What I'm grateful for:
That this current heat wave will not last forever (it's hot but it's still amazingly green out there)
Fans (I'm tempted at times to drive around in my car so I can stay in the air conditioning!).  No window units here!
For email, Skype, and phone so that I can stay in touch with friends/family on the other side of the ocean
The new staff at BFA: a great bunch
Friends who pray with you/for you
Sleep (I got over jetlag fairly quickly)
A new friend who is going to be my purchasing agent, buying me a new computer (didn't have time for that in July) and bringing it back to Germany

    What do I want?
    Cooler weather
Students (who don't yet know Jesus) to come to know Christ as Savior
To be able to stay in my current apartment (the house is up for sale)
For my mom to be safe as she travels to see family in the Midwest (via car and train)

    Cute French town nearby...

  • Gratitude and Wishes

Having been back in Germany now a little over a week I thought I'd reflect a little..

    What am a grateful for?

    1. A month in the States!!  It was crazy full, but great fun.

    2. These five munchkins!!  What a blessing it was to spend time with them in July!!

    3. My serious mom.  She loves me even when I make silly faces!!

    4. Friends who drive you home and then turn around a few days later and come see you again.  I miss these two dear friends like crazy!!

What else am I grateful for?
    5. Warm days, and rainy evenings.
    6. That the German class for the new BFA staff went well this week.
    7. For the opportunity to share my spare bedroom with a friend.
    8. That my plants all survived my absence
    9. That my days have been relatively pain free
    10. For a weekend in Switzerland with my uncle and cousin and 2nd cousin
    11. Good nights of sleep
    12. A CAR!!  I'll try to post pics soon.

    What do I want?
To be more disciplined in my use of my free time
To see God at work (I know HE constantly is, I just want to tune in to it)
Wisdom for the coming school year
    A new vision

Moment of great happiness:  Yup, you guessed it.
